Sift HR is the consulting practice of Justin Wiegand, Ph.D. (LinkedIn). Dr. Wiegand is a faculty member of the Fowler College of Business at San Diego State University. He previously worked in Human Resources for Shell in Texas and Louisiana before returning to his alma mater, the University of Illinois, to complete a Ph.D. focused on fit assessment. He has taught classes at the master’s and undergraduate levels covering Planning and Staffing, HR Management, and HR Analytics and has been recognized as a top university instructor. Dr. Wiegand has published his research in top academic journals and presented at various meetings of the Academy of Management (AOM), Society of Industrial and Organizational Psychology (SIOP), and Labor and Employment Relations Association (LERA). He is the recipient of numerous awards, grants, and fellowships including distinctions from Ford, Caterpillar, the National Science Foundation, and the State of Illinois.
Dr. Wiegand’s work with Fortune 100 HR and fit assessment research illustrated how well-designed fit assessments provide significant predictive ability over interviews and resume reviews alone. Yet, many organizations fail to integrate assessments into their hiring processes. Dr. Wiegand sat down with HR leaders and hiring managers to find out barriers to launch. He discovered doubt about assessments’ legality, a lack of knowledge on their predictive ability and how they can be used to improve existing processes like interviews, and concern over their cost and ease of implementation.
